"The guitar. Well, you've got quite the talented musician at your side. That's not an easy instrument to master. But, then again, I come from a land of bagpipes, which is probably just as difficult."
He chucked deep within his chest. "If I ever tried to play an instrument, it would sound like the animals that sweet Rosenblatt girl works with." Speaking of introducing animals, he made a mental note to introduce Saiorse to Belle,; no doubt being around a creature of water as opposed to fire would be a nice change.
"Ya find anything good, lass?" he cupped his hands and called out to the poking head of the little girl.

After diving under the water again, Saorise popped her head up just in time to hear Carl calling out to her. When he asked if she had found anything good yet, she nodded and held up a clam she had found, half buried under the sand on the ocean floor. "Clam!" she called out happily. She wasn't about to keep it of course, but it was still a cool find.

Lucille gave a small laugh at Carl's mention of the bagpipes. Indeed, such an instrument seemed quite difficult to play, even more so than a guitar. However, at the mention of guitars and Manolo, she realized the day was turning from morning towards afternoon and she had agreed to see her friend for lunch.
Even though they were both very busy and didn't get to spend as much time together as before, both of them still made an effort to spend time together whenever it was possible. It was a good way to find out how the other was doing and what they had come to experience at the circus so far.
She looked at the sun for a brief moment before letting out a small sigh. She had enjoyed getting to know Carl and Saorise immensely, but she also knew she could never break a promise she had made to Manolo.
"I must apologize but it's nearly noon and I promised my friend that I would have lunch with him so that we could catch up. I really would love to talk more."

Carl smiled at Saoirse's enthusiasm for finding a clam. To some, it was just a waste of time. But to her, finding treasures in the sea was everything to her. It had been so long for the little girl to be back in her element, and it made him glad he was there to witness it. As he watched her dip in and out, Lucille's comment about being late for lunch caught his ear.
"Oh. I suppose I shouldn't keep you around here, then. But yes, we should talk again some time."

Saorise finally found what she was looking for: pretty seashells that still held their color, even after being under the sea for so long. There were a small pile of them under some sand. She scooped up a couple of them before popping out of the water and heading back to shore. She was soon running back to Carl and Lucille, her coat and hair dripping wet. "Look, look!" she said excitedly, holding up the shells she had found.

"I'm certain we will see each other around the circus. And my first performance with Manolo will be coming up very soon. Perhaps you and Saorise would like to see it?"
She smiled warmly at Carl and no sooner had she finished speaking when Saorise came running out of the water, human once more and with her arms full of seashells. The little girl's excitement was wonderful to see and Lucille found herself leaning down once more to speak to her.
"Those are beautiful, Saorise! Listen, I'm sorry but I'm going to have to leave to keep a promise to another friend of mine, but if you like you can come by the my personal quarters in the sleeping tent anytime this week. I can show you how to make a necklace or headband from these shells. Would you like that?"

"I agree with Lucille. All the beachcombers would be finding just tiny pieces of these." Carl was holding one of the shells Saiorse had discovered in her dive. The orange pink was nearly see-through, and the tip was white. She had other varieties littered about such as the little golden jingle shells and the rainbow doused mussels. Lucille invited her over to make seashell jewelry, and the older man smiled warmly at the notion.
"And we'll come see your performance. Once we see the schedule we will make time for you and Manolo."

Saorise smiled excitedly at that and nodded. That sounded perfect. She was sure she had plenty of seashells to make something out of them. She'd probably reserve the one Lucille had given her, though. That looked pretty enough by itself. When Carl mentioned seeing a performance of hers, Saorise gave another nod. Yes, they would definitely come see her next time she was in the show.

"Thank you. I look forward to seeing you both again."
Lucille smiled down at Saorise with warmth before turning it up to Carl. She then turned back towards the town of Salem and began to walk away across the sand. However, several yards from the young girl and old man she turned and waved back at them, her red hair catching the sunlight and her dress blowing in the slight breeze.
"Au revoir!"

"Aye. We," at this Carl wrapped an arm around Saoirse. Her wet seal coat would have been a startle to some, what with the own dampness in the air from Salem's coast, but the old man didn't even flinch, "will bee lookin' forward to seeing you, too." He waved after Lucille, watching the radiance of the sun glema off her red hair. In just the briefest seconds, he could have sworn he was looking at Sally...or was it just him remembering things like old minds did? Even more interesting eas after Sally, he thought he was looking at Ellie in a summery sundress. He shook his head to avoid making his eyes water.
"All right, lass," he looked down at Saoirse and carefully began collecting her treasures to put in a bucket they had brought, "we found quite the selection. We can come back another time. It's starting to get cold. Maybe we'll have Lucille come with us." ((end thread))
