When their hands connected, something peculiar happened. One would think that being surrounded by everything that was different would be nothing for the gargoyle to worry about Yet he was someone with a heart. Any heartless person would have let the lady fall. Instead, Carl loosened the grip in case he hedl on too tightly. But Lucille's glazed eyes became clear again, and he sighed in relief.
"Aye. Ocean altitudes can make one dizzy."

Saorise gave a little gasp when Lucille swayed on her feet. Was she okay? Was she sick or something? She was fine in a moment, but Saorise still looked at her with worried eyes. If Lucille was sick, Saorise wanted to make her feel better. She patted around in her pockets for a moment before finding a lollipop. She had gotten it from Baymax the day before, but had decided to save it for later. Candy always made her feel better. Maybe it would make Lucille feel better too. She held out the lollipop to the woman.

"Oui, I suppose that's true. After all, I've never been this close to the ocean before."
Lucille looked at Carl a moment longer, a slight frown on her face as she recovered from the sudden and strange feeling. However, she looked down at Saorise when she held out a lollipop to her and felt another smile part her lips. She bent down a little and took the sweet.
"Merci beaucoup, Saorise. I will take this back home with me."

"Never been close to the ocean? Most people around your age have at this point." Carl fixed the brim of his hat with a wry smile, which grew at Saoirse offering Lucille a lollipop. Now where had she gotten that? He hadn't gotten her one. Whoever gave to her, the little girl was being charitable in passing on the kindness rather than selfishly keeping it.

Saorise smiled when Lucille accepted her gift. She wasn't sure what "merci beaucoup" meant, but it sounded like something positive. It sounded French. Saorise wasn't entirely familiar with the language, but she had heard it spoken a few times. It sounded pretty, in her opinion.

Lucille gave a small laugh as she twirled the lollipop between her fingers. The ocean continued to roar and rush just beside them and she found her eyes drawn once again to the beautiful vastness of the sea. She merely stared at this sight a moment longer before returning her gaze to Carl and Saorise.
"Well, my parents weren't really much for traveling and for the longest time I couldn't find a reason to leave my home in Paris......but tell me, are you from here? Salem?"
Lucille gestured to the town that lay on the opposite side of the sea.

"Paris. You're quite a ways from home, lass. I'm far myself." He adjusted the brim of his hat, looking back at he old buildings Lucille was gesturing towards. It it weren't of the red, white and blue flags billowing in the wind, it could have easily been mistaken for a seaside area back in his old home. Back when he and Ellie were married and painting it colorful to stand out against the gray stone.
"I'm from Scotland, originally. Accent's dyin a bit, but I'll catch on a few mannerisms here an there."

Paris, Scotland, Ireland, it looked they were all a long way from home. Although, Saorise wasn't sure if she could consider Ireland her home anymore. Sure, it was where she was born, and it was where she spent time with her family. But she was with the circus now, and she had Carl. This was her home now, right? Her face scrunched up in thought as her attention drifted away from Lucille and Carl's conversation for a moment.

"Scotland?"
Lucille blinked in mild surprise when Carl told her where he himself came from. She had expected him to be a native to Salem along with Saorise.
"If you don't mind my asking, what brings you two all the way out here?"
She was genuinely curious. While she herself had never been presented with much of a chance to travel, there were many people who spent their time seeing the world and all it had to offer. Perhaps Carl and Saorise belonged to that group?

Carl tapped his fingers agianst his cane nervously. Lucille seemed harmless enough, but how could he explain the circus to her? Maybe by leaving out the magic part, it would be safe. She hadn't seen Saoirse transform thankfully. "We're part of a group of travellers." There, that seemed safe enough. "Little Saiorse here was on her own, as was I. We...I guess made a connection. Ain't that right, lass?"

Carl seemed a bit vague when he explained what he and Saorise were doing in Salem. It took her a moment to realize why. Lucille might be a regular old human. She might not know that creatures like selkies and gargoyles actually existed. She hugged her coat tighter around herself, glad that she hadn't turned into a seal. Lucille might freak out if she saw that. But she smiled and nodded at what Carl said. "Best mórai ever," she said, hugging Carl's arm.

At the word 'travelers,' Lucille blinked several times and wondered for a moment. The small crease formed once more between her eyes, wondering if fate could be that ironic? Well, there really was only one way to find out.
"Pardon moi, but when you say travelers.....do you mean you are part of the circus that just came into Salem? The Cirque Mystique?"
Lucille didn't know why, but some deep instinct in her made her feel as though Carl simply had to be from the circus. It was strange in that the feeling didn't include Saiorse and only came from Carl. For a moment she wondered at where this sensation had even come from.

There was some hesitation. On the one hand, Lcuille knew about the Cirque Mystique. But on the other hand, it could mean several things. The cirque's constant attacks by everything from crazed scientists to rival magicians, to even people with a lust for chaos - Saiorse was lucky to have missed that - which made his arm that wasn't being hugged by the selkie brush back strands of the little girl's jet black hair. As he affectionately patted the little girl, he answered the woman's question with just a simple nod.

It was almost as if Lucille seemed to know that they were from the circus, just by looking at them. Was she a psychic or something? Saorise wouldn't be surprised. Ever since she had joined the circus, she had seen everything from fairies to vampires to witches. And that was just scraping the surface. She smiled as Carl patted her on the head. When Lucille asked if they were from the circus, she responded with an enthusiastic "Uh huh!"

When both Carl and Saorise confirmed that they were indeed from the Cirque Mystique, her somewhat confused face broke into another radiant smile.
"Well that explains it then! I'm from the Cirque Mystique too! A companion of mine and myself joined just before the cirque closed up and came here to Salem."
Perhaps that was why she felt like she already knew Carl. Maybe she had passed him somewhere in the circus and merely forgotten about it or just not paid much attention to him.
