Belle nodded in understanding. That was a good point, Facilier was more of a whispered name in Europe then here in North America. But maybe it would change, tough to say. "If you like, you can borrow some of the books on witch trials we have," she gestured to the whole walls filled with books. Some were fresh, some were ancient, some showed signs of being read a lot with white spines, others barely seemed touched.

Esmeralda glanced over when Belle said she could borrow a few books. Not surprisingly, her friend had quite a collection of books on some nearby shelves. "Ooo, thanks," she said as she went over to browse. "We should really get a library or something going on at this circus," she said. "I think a lot of people would like it." Usually, if people wanted to do research of some sort, they hit the library of whatever town they were in or they borrowed some of Facilier's books. Having a bunch of texts in one place might be useful for everybody.

Belle flipped her ponytail over her shoulder, "Actually, that was the thought process about this area. I wanted my house to double as a library," she said. "My mother-in-law suggested it. So when Duncan and I came home, you could imagine the delight that she managed to get anything you could imagine so far." Yes, Margaret was a woman Belle was proud to call a mother-in-law. She could hold a gun to a dragon's head to say back off, and then supply you with all the books she had while training as a monster hunter. Some of the books had been handed down to Duncan and Belle as family heirlooms.

The idea of having Belle and Duncan's house double as a library did sound appealing in Esmeralda's mind. "Maybe we can expand it to a whole library wing or something," she said as she grabbed two books that looked interesting. "I bet some of the other book lovers around here would love to help out with organizing stuff and keeping track of who borrowed what."

"Every other week I ask Twilight to come in and help me reshelve," Belle said with a laugh. Xander was on the ground, sitting upright and apparently trying to talk, but all that came out were several babbles. "I don't think you're ready for those books quite yet," Belle answered his 'ba-ba-ba' noises.

It took Esmeralda a moment to remember who Twilight was. She had met the girl a few times, but hadn't really spent extended time with her. But at least Belle had found a fellow bookworm. Xander joined in the conversation for a moment, even if all he made were babbling noises. Esmeralda laughed. "Think maybe he'll be a bookworm when he gets older?" she asked. It was kind of hard to tell at this stage, but it was still fun to think about.

Belle looked over at her babbling baby, who stopped to gape at them with a big smile and his green-hazel eyes - the same eyes as Belle, just a tinge more green, but not quite as venomy as an irate Duncan - and shrugged. A little early to say whether or not he'd take after a parent. "Who knows?" she answered. "Don't get me wrong, every parent wants a smart child, but as babies, hard to tell this early in the game of parenting."

"True," Esmeralda admitted. "I guess we'll have to feed him plenty of books until then...not literally of course." It was good for kids to be read to anyway, whether they became bookworms or not.

Belle tried to stifle her laugh, but instead it came out bursting loudly. Yeah, to some it might have sounded lame, like something Miguel would have flung during an awkward silence in an act, but now she was guffawing. "Don't give me ideas. I may grind up a manuscript and feed it to him. Then when Duncan changes his diapers, he'll be ask 'Honey, why is there a Poe quote...'okay, I'm not even going to finish that," she cleared her throat and sat upright, knowing it was going south fast.
Xander suddenly starting fussing, and maternal instinct kicked in. Belle picked up her whimpering baby, cooing and making comforting noises, patting him on the back. With each pat, his fussing stopped very slowly, "We need to invite Aunt Esme over more often, hm?" she looked at Esmeralda with gratitude, half-whispering, "This is the first time he's ever started settling before naptime."

Esmeralda had to laugh at that. It was pretty funny. With a couple of books on hand, she headed back to her seat as Belle tried to calm Xander down. Luckily, he seemed to settle down pretty quick. She gave a little smile. "Maybe a nap is in order," she said. "You've got some good books here. I should probably comb through them and see how much we can incorporate into the show."

Belle gave her friend a smile. "A nap for both of us, usually. But most of my work is pretty much done. Aisling has me covered when I have to do," she cleared her throat, "motherly things." She patted her baby, who seemed to babble 'may-may' while in a half-dozed state. "I'll put this little guy to bed and probably getting back to checking on the tent."

Esmeralda gave a little laugh. That was true. Parents needed naps as much as their kids, especially new parents. No doubt taking care of Xander was a handful for Belle and Duncan. But, it seemed like they were taking to parenthood just fine. Esmeralda shifted the books slightly in her arms as she smiled at Xander. "Sweet dreams you little goober," she said, giving him a quick peck on the forehead. "I think I'm gonna head on out. I'll let you know what Dad thinks of any ideas I get from these books."

"Like I said earlier," Belle giggle as she brushed Xander's auburn hair back, "you were smart t pick adoption. Less work, though I imagine Shanti's a handful herself." She may have seemed like a sweetheart, but who new what was going on in the household? She doubted the little girl was a stereotype, but who knew. She smiled at her friend in gratitude. "Okay. Thanks for the visit, Es. It's a shame we don't get to do it as often as we want to anymore."

"Tell me about it," Esmeralda said. "That girl always bites off more than she can chew. If she'd have it her way, she'd be learning a million things at once." Shanti still had that drive in her to learn everything she could get her hands on. Esmeralda hadn't been the only person to tell her to slow down and take things one at a time. However, she was making pretty good progress with her magic. Esmeralda was considering teaching her some dance moves in the next couple of months or so. Belle had a point when she said she and Esmeralda didn't get to hang out as much as they used to, but Esmeralda felt like that was just because things had changed so much. A few years ago, there had been just their friendship. Then, they had found love, and even had kids now. They had been through a lot. "Hey, I think as long as we see each other every so often, I think we'll be fine," she said with a smile. "Good friends are always able to pick things up where they left off, even if it's been ages since they last hung out."

Shanti was a workaholic? Wow, that was something that Belle had no idea. Well, studying magic was probably a difficult feat to learn. "She can come and borrow any books on magic. It's on me," she suggested with a smile. And Esmeralda was probably right; good friends picked up on things when they were left off, and it was good to know it was happening still. ((end thread))
