Hanyuu couldn't get over how much the world had developed over the centuries that she had been locked away. She had seen some of it on the journey before the cirque, but still, everything was different and new. She found herself staring at the technology at the cirque more and more. Even now, she found herself fiddling with an old flip phone she had found. It wasn't new, but to her it was, at least. Taking a walk, rather than floating as she normally did, she continued to the play with the phone.
The phone had gained enough of her attention that she failed to notice a much larger person in front of her, and she found herself bumping into them, sending her and the phone to the ground.
Getting up she brushed dirt off her dress and bowed to the person she bumped into as an apology "Sorry, that was my fault."

Steve Rogers was standing in the middle of the pathway, looking puzzled as he stared down at the device in his hand. Maria had given it to him that morning. She called it a 'smartphone'. Why someone thought it was necessary to give a phone a brain was beyond him, and he couldn't help but feel lost staring at the foreign piece of technology. As he stared down at the tech, he continually rubbed his finger against the screen, trying to figure out the meaning behind each of the small symbols he saw. It was a wonder anyone could make phone calls with it.
Steve's thoughts were interrupted when he felt a small bump from behind. He turned to face a young girl, who offered an apology for bumping into him.
"No worries, Miss," Steve answered with a smile, "no harm done." As he spoke, he looked down at her hand, an noticed she too was carrying a phone. She seemed young, and probably knowledgeable, perhaps she knew something about modern phones. He figured that it wouldn't hurt to ask.
"If you don't mind me asking," Steve said, holding out the smartphone for her to see, "but would you happen to know how this works?"

Hanyuu gave a sheepish smile "I'm sorry, but I don't even know how to properly work this one." She pointed to the flip phone "I would help if I could." Hanyuu felt slight relief that someone other than her wasn't familiar with the technology "I'm more or less just playing with this."
She continued to push random buttons on the phone, until she gave up. Sighing and looking up at the man she bumped into, she smiled "I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Hanyuu."

Steve let out a small sigh. While he was disappointed that she couldn't help, another part of him felt thankful he met someone who at least understood his feelings of confusion with modern technology. He also hoped he hadn't embarrassed her with his inquiry.
"Steve Rogers," he replied to her greeting, half bowing to her, "a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
Steve then glanced back down at the smartphone, his look of puzzlement returning to his face.
"I hope you don't mind me saying so," he said, holding up the device, "but it's things like this that make adjusting to modern life so hard. I mean, in my day, the closest things we had to this doohickey was a handheld transceiver. And you certainly couldn't fit those in your pocket."

The way Steve said 'in my day' made Hanyuu think he was much older than he looked. However, when he said that, she couldn't help but smile "I don't mind you saying so, I understand what you mean. In my day, we didn't even have electricity yet." Hanyuu sometimes missed the old days, hundreds of years ago. If Steve had already had transceivers back in his day, he wasn't too old, at least, not as old as her.
"If you don't mind my asking, how old are you, exactly?" She hoped she wasn't being too forward with asking. But her curiosity had gotten the better of her and it was too late to take back the question.

Steve did a double take when Hanyuu spoke. No electricity? In her day? He quickly shook his head, regaining his composure, but it was still quite a surprise to hear this young girl talking about days older than his.
When she asked about his age, Steve scratched the back of his head. Not many people asked about his age, and to be honest, he never really thought about before. Physically, he hadn't aged a day since being frozen in the ice. But, if he were to take that duration into account...
"This'll probably sound strange," Steve answered slowly, "but while I'm technically thirty, I'm...probably around a hundred years old. It's, uh, kind of a weird story."

Hanyuu stopped playing with the phone and looked at Steve with wide eyes "Being a hundred years old without aging. It must be a weird story indeed." Hanyuu wasn't one to judge, but from what she could see, Steve looked like a normal human, then again, a lot of people here could pass for human.
She was getting curious even further "If you don't mind, could I hear this story Mr.Rogers?" She smiled brightly, showing that it was genuine interest and not her trying to just be nosy.

Steve gave a small smile at the question. Not many people who asked him about himself, at least not the personal stuff. Many people he talked to were fans of his who were more interested in hearing about his fights against the Nazis. It felt nice to share a more casual conversation. Well, as casual as a conversation about being frozen could be.
"Well, I was soldier back then," Steve explained, stuffing his hands into his pockets, "and I was on a mission. It was towards the end of the Second World War, and there was a war criminal named Red Skull. We had tracked him down to his hideout, and we were close to bringing down his operation. He tried to escape in a rocket, and I went after him. In the end, he tried to blow us both up over the waters over the North Pole. I survived the explosion, but I was knocked out when I hit the water. I wound up getting frozen in ice, and I wasn't thawed out until 70 years later. I know it's strange, hearing about a guy being dropped in frozen water, anyone else would've died. But, being a super soldier helped me survive. And now, here I am in the 21st century."
As he told the story, a part of Steve wondered how Hanyuu would react. She likely never even heard about the First World War, let alone the second. He hoped she wasn't too startled by what he was telling her.

After the story was told, Hanyuu stood up on a crate and patted Steve on the head "You've been through quite the experience." Hanyuu smiled at him, her height now equal with his.
She really had missed a lot if there had been two world wars and she had never gotten word of it. It made her sad to know how much the world had progressed around her while she knew nothing of it, but the change must have been much more startling for Steve, who must have had no conscious way of knowing that time was passing while he slept. She had been awake while he hadn't.

Steve looked rather sheepishly back at Hanyuu when she started patting him on the head. It seemed rather silly, being comforted by someone like her comforting him. Back then, he was usually the one consoling those younger than him, the mentor to help prop them up after falling. But now, it seemed like he was the one always needing propping up.
"Well, I told you my story," Steve said, hoping to change the subject, "what about yours?"

Hanyuu sat down on the crate and smiled at him lightly. Deciding that he had earned the right to hear it, she spoke "Well, this happened several centuries ago. Believe it or not, I'm actually what you'd call a goddess. I lived in a small village in Japan, and people worshiped me. Well, eventually a legend spread about me. People began to say that if anyone left the village, I'd curse them, and make them bring about their own death. None of this was true, but eventually, a priest came to the village and used a spell, trapping me in the village shrine. I've been there until earlier this year, when my two friends, now brothers, found me and freed me. Then we set off and eventually, we ended up here." She motioned around them to get her point across "So, I've missed quite a few centuries of progress."

Steve let out a sigh as he heard Hanyuu's tale. He may not have been alive at the time, but he couldn't help but feel guilty for what happened to her. It was another example of human reacting badly to something they couldn't understand. He found it frustrating to hear how people were treating enchanteds like that. He may have understood why some people would assume the worst, but it still didn't make persecution without cause right.
"I'm sorry you had to go through something like that," Steve said after Hanyuu had finished, "I...can't imagine what that must've been like."
At this point, a part of him wondered whether or not she had heard about Team-X, and what had happened before in the cirque.

Hanyuu smiled at Steve "It's alright. It was lonely, and it was boring, mind-numbing, I'll be honest, but it's behind me now. I'm happy here, and I never have to face that again." She thought Steve's story was much more...interesting than hers, and his story was one of a real hero.
"What about you? Are you happy here?"

Steve was a little caught off guard by Hanyuu's question. If he was honest with himself, he never really thought about it. As a soldier, he never really had any attachments to any singular locations. He was always on the move, needed to be ready to deploy wherever he was ordered to, so much so that staying in one place for more than a month was a luxury. But things were different now, he was needed here, and it didn't seem like he was going to be going anywhere else anytime soon.
"I...I never really thought about that," Steve admitted, "for me, I always seemed to focus on the work. Never really thought about...attachments. I mean, don't get me wrong, these are friendly people, but...for me, it's about the job, the mission. I know that probably sounds strange."

"It doesn't sound strange at all. It's normal to focus on work, rather than attachments." Hanyuu smiled "But being in one place for so long, even with just work, at least you've made connections with the people here, right? So, even if you're working, you can at least say they make you happy, right?" Hanyuu didn't mean to pry, but it would be saddening to think that Steve was surrounded by such nice people, that she knew of anyway, and was unhappy.
