Steve couldn't help but pause at Hanyuu's second question. It was a difficult situation at the cirque, given everything that happened prior. Even though they seemed to be accepted, there were those among the cirque who still hadn't forgotten what Team-X had done. Trust between them was still wavering, and there was still much to do before it could be solidified. Until then, feeling happy seemed farther off than he would've liked.
"It's...it's not that easy," Steve answered, his gaze shifting towards the ground, "we've, that is, my team and I...we haven't always been on friendly terms with the cirque..."
It was going to be hard to explain, but a part of Steve felt he owed it to her to tell the truth, if she'd hear it.

When Steve said that his team and the cirque hadn't always gotten along, Hanyuu felt the need to hear the story from Steve himself. It clearly hadn't been good, and it would be better to hear it from him himself, rather then from someone else.
"If you don't mind telling the story, I don't mind listening." Hanyuu quickly reiterated "But only if you yourself are comfortable speaking about it."

Steve swallowed hard; it wasn't so much about whether or not he was willing to tell the story, but rather that Hanyuu needed to hear it. More importantly, he felt it needed to come from him, or at least one of Team-X's members, so at the very least, she'd be able to understand their side. He knew well about how hard it was to admit something like that. There was nothing else but to get it out.
"The thing is," Steve started after taking a quick breath, "I used to work for a man named Tony Stark. I wouldn't call him a bad person, just...misguided. I knew his father once, and I felt a sort of connection with him. He helped revive me after my deep freeze, and he asked me join a special team he'd been organizing. I accepted because...because I thought his intentions were good. He told me our mission was to help protect people. That the group I was joining was going to help keep the world safe, that sort of thing. But the more I worked with them, the more I realized that...our mission wasn't what I thought it was. They're good people, all of them, but Stark; his idea of a better world was...selective, I guess. He didn't trust enchanted beings. Magical folks and creatures, to him, were too dangerous to live along side peacefully. That's what brought us here, to Cirque Mystique; he saw Facilier, and the people living here, as dangerous. And..."
Steve's head had drooped downward, resembling a dead flower with no petals.
"That's the thing about being a soldier," Steve continued, "you're drilled and trained to follow orders without question. It comes in handy when dealing with an emergency...but sometimes, it stops you from asking the important questions, and you wind up doing something you regret. I guess that's why we try not to think of ourselves as heroes."

Hanyuu listened quietly and patiently, taking in all the information Steve was giving her. When he finished and began to hang his head, Hanyuu patted him on the head, deciding to speak in her adult voice "You and your group, your team, attacked the circus, didn't you?" Hanyuu knew Steve felt really guilty about it, and he seemed more ashamed that he had been following orders, doing something he would, she guessed, have never done otherwise "I don't know all the bad things that must have come from that, but it is not like you can take back what was done. What has happened cannot be changed, but I think it will be alright, as long as you make up for what you have done. Atone for it. That is what you and your team are doing here, right? Trying to make things right?"

Steve turned his head towards Hanyuu. Her tone sounded different all of a sudden, almost grown up. It was odd, to be certain, though not the strangest thing he'd seen. Still, her words seemed to carry through to him. And hearing her ask about the attack on the cirque, he nearly expected her to draw away. But she didn't. Like many of the new faces he met here, she seemed to want to understand him better, give him and his colleagues the benefit of the doubt. It was amazing how many of them were open to the idea of second chances. Then again, that's why many seemed to come here in the first place.
"Yes," Steve said, answering Hanyuu's question, "that's why we're here. To make up for our past mistakes. And...maybe it's true, you can't change what happened. But, I've heard that do-overs are possible, and that this place is an ideal place for such a thing. That's what I'm hoping for...a do-over."

Hanyuu smiled warmly at Steve's answer, continuing to speak in her grown up voice "Then that's all that can be done, and from what I can understand so far, you're doing all you can, so it shouldn't be too long before all of those sins are erased." She then changed her voice back to that of a child's "So continue to do your best, okay?" She offered a peace sign.

Steve couldn't help but smile. It was clear the girl was wiser than her appearance suggested, and he felt genuinely comforted by her words. Whether speaking in an adult's voice or a child's, he could sense the wisdom she conveyed. He found it odd that she'd flash the 'V for Victory' sign at him, but then he guessed the gesture meant something different nowadays, so he mimicked her sign back at her, hoping whatever positive meaning it had was conveyed.
"Thanks," Steve said, "it's good to have a new friend."

When Steve held up a peace sign of his own, she smiled wider "You're welcome." She was glad to have made yet another friend, and she was even happier that she seemed to have made him feel better with what she said.
Deciding to change the subject to be more light hearted and less serious, she asked "So, what all can you do?" She was curious as to whether he had powers or not, and if he did, what he could do.
