Carl glanced up at Aidan. The old man had always been rooted and level headed, like an old tree. Was it possible he acquired that rooted demeanor from the experience of losing a loved one? Whoever it was had meant much. Carl recognized the temporary glaze of sadness in Aidan's eyes. "Aye," he said softly. "Ellie left me a note in her favorite scrapbook. It said 'Thank you for the adventure. Now go have a new one.'" He laughed drily. "Little did she know my adventure would have a magical circus and befriending an Irish healer."

"I think a lot of us never expected to end up here," Aidan agreed. He certainly hadn't, and he doubted Aisling had ever expected it either. But, here they were, and with new friends and family. Their life may be different, but it was certainly a happy one.

"You found yer way here by means of an ideal healer. I found me way here from the wishes of me dead wife," Carl shrugged like it was no big deal. "Wonder how everyone else get here. Surely the more common tale is 'I was rounded and convinced to come here by Facilier himself." That seemed to be the normal origin story.

"That does seem to be the case for a lot of people," Aidan agreed, laughing. Most had ended up here to escape an old life of theirs, try to create a new one. And they had happened to stumble upon Facilier along the way, and had agreed to start over here, while putting their talents to good use.

Carl swigged the remains of his drink. The conversation was beginning to get drier than that very mug. "So, what are ye readin' these days? The book you were lookin' at when I came in was thicker than any of the books bein' sold out in the city streets."

"Well, a book like this can't be found in any shop," Aidan said, holding up the massive book. "These came from my home in Ireland. Some are sort of the typical books on healing: lists of herbs and what they can do, that sort of thing. Others have the healing power within the pages themselves. Tulio's already made a few of his own." He smiled proudly.

"Ah." Carl's interest perked a bit. Herbal remedies had always fascinated him, even a sa child. That was one of the many things that intriqued him about traveling. How herbs could be used. The thick volume looked, well, ancient. "And I thought you and I were the oldest things in this circus," he muttered drily, his fingers flipped through the semi-transparent pages. Ink written passages and intricate drawings of each plant with the haling properties were scrawled in dark colors, looking bright. "I take it Aisling assisted you in writing this?"

"In a way, yes," Aidan replied. "Her kind taught us healers how to make books like these. She was already pretty ancient by the time I came around. But she still remains a child at heart." Even though Aisling was pretty old, she still acted like a curious little girl most of the time. But she could act serious when the occasion called for it, especially if somebody she loved was in trouble. She was fiercely protective of her loved ones.

"Aye. The Fae folk of Scotland had the same predicament," Carl nodded. Stories of the Fair Folk, mainly told to him by Ellie, had portrayed the Fae of spreading joy through the seasons, or being divided into different courts. But for the most part, the childish demeanor was very similar to Aisling's personality. "Has Aisling ever met that new dancer? The one who almost always has the animals followin' her? She and Belle could be partners," he laughed at his own horrible joke.

"Hmm, I don't think so," Aidan replied. "I'll have to mention that to her. She can be solitary sometimes. I worry a little bit about her making friends." The only company Aisling really had for a long time was Aidan and Pangur Ban, so it was still a little hard for her to seek out company. But Aidan was sure she would make friends once she branched out. She was such a lively person.

"A pure Fae like her should meet the young half-Fae. They're practically two peas in a pod," Carl chuckled. Much like Aisling, the blonde dancer seemed incredibly timid, not really interested on making friends without whimpering; or, if it were animals that she was in the company of. In that scenario, she seemed simply kind and airy. After the last few drops of the ginger elixir were drained, Carl adjusted his hips, the cracking indicating the elixir did its promised due. "Ah. Much better. Forgot how foggy London could be"

"I'll try to push her in the right direction," Aidan replied, smiling. He was sure he could get Aisling over to the animal tent in the hopes of her running into Aurora. Aisling did love animals, after all. She still spent a majority of time in the forest, where she could be surrounded by them as much as she liked. "It does seem constantly damp here," he agreed. "But it does making finding moss a lot easier." Some plants just thrived better in wetter climates, and moss was often a plant Aidan needed in his medicine supply.

Carl opened his mouth to ask where exactly Aidan found the moss in the foggy, confusing streets of London, but then he realized he answered his own question. Moss did grow practically everywhere in the city. On the walls, in the grassy areas, and even in the sidewalk cracks. "Aye. You're lucky ya didn't live with the damn stuff, though, I've had to scrape so much of it off of my cart. Well, least I know who to give the access to."

Aidan laughed. "I'd welcome any supply." Heck, maybe other people would catch on and he would have regular moss donations. That was always the thing with new locations: while some plants went scarce, there was always another that grew in abundance.

"Just hope the people know the difference between moss and other plants. Then again, we're too close to an urban environment to encounter poison ivy or poison oak. And ya have that one line; leaves of three, leave 'em be." Carl laughed. The green weed had always been a pest in the northlands.
