"Hmm, the most I can do is get things that will help your joints feel less stiff," Aidan said. "There's not much I can do with vision problems." Sight was one of those things that just deteriorated over time, regardless of how much medicine you took.

Carl shook his head with a semismile. So like Aidan wanting to help whenever he could. "No worry about the sight. It'll be lost eventually. Some things cannot be healed. Even with the age. But," to avoid sounding ungrateful, he perked a bit, "I suppose somethin' for the joints wouldn't hurt."

"Well, ginger is always good for that," Aidan said, holding up a jar full of the stuff. "It goes great with tea, or you can put some in whatever you eat. Vegetables and ginger are always a good combination."

"Now you're makin' me miss the cuisine back in Japan," Carl chuckled. Ginger and vegetables were an excellent combination. The jar, which contained three lumps of the sweet smelling root, indicated how much medical knowledge Aidan had. Even more than Carl's ancestors had known from old Scottish healing techniques.

"Japan did have quite a variety of herbal shops," Aidan agreed. He had only gone to them a couple of times though, mainly because the big city always gave him a headache. But he would be sure to try and find one somewhere in London. Or maybe he could get Tulio to accompany him. Tulio always felt at ease in cities.

"Aye. London is a bit more...conflicting than Japan. The roads weave wherever they please. If I were able to form at night, I would prefer air travel to get to places easier." Carl muttered swirling his mug a bit. That was the downside to the family curse. The gargoyle part was natural for a night thing. However the ability to revert, a common trait in most clans, was lost in the curse.

"It does seem like a maze in there," Aidan agreed. "Although I feel like new places always seem that way to me. When I first arrived at the circus, it seemed pretty maze-like." He gave a little laugh.

"Only that maze isn't as dull and boring. There are at least things that are new to look at and you know where you've been." Carl laughed with Aidan. A sort of a harsh thing to say about a circus environment, especially after being around it for a while, but Carl was mainly joking. No ill will would come from him

"Tell me about it. I never knew Facilier had so many different supernatural creatures in one place," Aidan said. "Although it makes me wonder what other supernaturals think of the circus." He had never really gotten an outsider's opinion on this place. At least, an opinion from someone who knew that all the acts done during the show weren't just special effects.

Carl paused. He had never really told Aidan about his...secret. Well he had hinted at it before and dropped clues, but there were never staight up words of 'I'm-from-an-old gargoyle-clan.' "From a supernatural perspective, part of me thinks it's clever that our - some call them gifts, others call them curses - are disguised as a show, but another part of me wonders if it's dangerous. Humans aren't all dumb - I should know, I married a woman who wanted to see something like this all her life - and a new arc of fear is now on us."

"Seems like Facilier's confident that anyone that poses a threat to us can be taken care of," Aidan said. While the ringmaster was protective of the circus, he did seemed assured that anyone who had a problem with it could be dealt with, in any way that seemed fit. Aidan wasn't sure if it was really true, or Facilier was just over-confident. "Oh, I didn't know you had a wife," he said, looking up with interest when Carl mentioned her. Aidan himself had never married, and he doubted he was about to at his age. But he did enjoy watching people he cared about being with their loved ones.

"Well, emphasis on HAD," Carl's voice lowered a bit, While he was out of the complete mourning phase, still talking about his first wife touched a very sensitive nerve. "Her name was Ellie. Liveliest girl in Scotland. Believed every legend was true in one way or another. Why, she would row a boat out to Loch Ness just to touch the beast if she had to," he chuckled. Ellie, with her long red hair and big green eyes. Who had a childish nature even as an old lady. "We were married for about fifty years. She died several months ago." His blue eyes looked down before glazing over. "It took me three months before I could step out of my own house again."

Losing a loved one. That was something Aidan knew very well. All of his fellow healers had been murdered long ago. Heck, even Brendan had gotten killed, the boy whom he had loved like his own son. It had taken him ages to get over it. At least he had Tulio now to look after, like a father would. And he knew Tulio practically saw him as a father-figure since his own dad hadn't exactly been the best of parents. "I know what it's like to lose someone you love," he said, putting a hand on his friend's shoulder. "But if there's anything I've learned, it's that letting go really is the best thing to do to start healing. Years ago, I lost a boy who was like a son to me. And truthfully, the loss didn't hurt as much when I finally let him go and moved on. It's hard, but I say you're already well on your way there. You've stepped out your door, settled in a new place, and you've found Sally. Those are some pretty big accomplishments right there."
