Now where would be a good place to buy time and keep his time-based signs discrete? He scanned the small venue, finally seeing a corner booth. Perfect. The line came to him. Pulling out his wad of cash, Carl ordered, "two butter croissants and a grande coffee, please." The money was cashed and taken. Squeezing Saoirse's hand affectionately, Carl led her over. "I know it's not a seaside view, but," he pointed to some daisies growing outside, "at least you have these."

Saorise smiled when she saw some daisies nearby. See? Nobody has to go to the woods, she thought to herself. There are pretty flowers out here too. Of course, that would hardly convince Aisling and Aidan, but she didn't want to think about that. She hopped over, picking one daisy for herself while handing another one to Carl.

The white petals and the sunny center of the daisies seemed to make Saorise happy, because next thing Carl knew, she was frockling happily through them like nothing had ever happened. He took the flower she offered him with a smile, tucking into the sporran he hid underneath his shirt. He didn't want something precious collected by her to get ruined. No sooner had he tucked it that he heard,
"Order for Saorise."
"Welp, there we are," He walked over to the counter, holding the golden croissant, which had the rich buttery smell wafting through the air, mixing with the honey-esque daisy smell to create something wonderful. The coffee smell reminded him of breakfast, when it was near twilight, which was a good thing. "Here you are," he knelt to her level, giving the pastry to her. "Don't eat it too fast, all right? Ya might be hungry during the flight."

Saorise beamed when Carl handed the croissant. It was such a pretty golden color. She almost didn't want to eat it. But, the buttery smell was too tempting and she ended up taking a rather large bite. She gave Carl a thumbs up after she swallowed. It was good.

"Not, don't eat too fast, lass. When we go up, we don't want you gettin airsick." Carl remembered all the times he had taken some people with him airborne, and how the acrophobics, or people not used to heights, turned pale. He didn't want Saiorse to be among them. The sun was now a semicircle in the sky. It was almost time. He sipped his coffee, just thinking quietly on how he was to coax the little selkie to get to where she was the most afraid of.

Saorise nodded and took smaller bites as she glanced at the sun. It was getting lower and lower in the sky with every passing minute. She gave a little excited bounce. Seeing Carl's gargoyle form was sure to be awesome.

Carl sipped his coffee, smiling at Saiorise nibbling at the flaky pastry daintly. The sun was almost there. As the sunlight was just over the mountain with only, one sliver of light, he patted her hand gently. "It's time."
He scooted out, looking for a secluded spot. No one wanted to see anyone turning into anything non human. But already, Carl saw the bronze scales crawling and the talons growing where his nails were. Hands would be easy to hide. Evwrything else? Not so much. He was already collasping his cane, feeling his spine lengthening. God, it hurt somewhat. He fought through the pain, rushing behind a dumpster and crouching down. Good. No one would see him there. The scales were crawling over his body, and the tail began swishing around. The wings burst free, crumpling the button down shirt to reveal the old Scottish breastplate he concealed. His white hair lengthened, which included a beard. The only way to tell it was still Carl Hudson? His blue eyes, one scarred, still retained themselves. Carl popped his back, sighing in relief.
"All right, lass, there we go."

Saorise had just swallowed the last of her croissant when Carl suddenly said it was time. Once they were safely out of sight, the transformation really started taking effect. Some people might have freaked out, but Saorise thought it fascinating. Soon enough, Carl was in his gargoyle form. Saorise stared with wonder in her eyes. But it didn't take her long before she gave a happy squeal and started bouncing again. Any bad thoughts about the forest were forgotten, for the moment, now that something wondrous was distracting her.

Saorise's reaction was something Carl never had expected. He was waiting for the little girl to do something that a frightened child would normally do, such as hide behind the other side of the dumpster or start bawling. Instead, she was just staring up at him. Her eyes were filled with the fascination a child curious about the world had, but even wider. As he mentioned the flight, her enthusiasm returned, making her dance around. "Now, no wiggling," he advised as he scooped her up, very careful not to scratch her. "And hold onto the back of my armor. Tightly." He could catch her if she did slip, but, still, safety over sympathy.

Carl hoisted Saorise onto his back and she mad sure to get a good grip. She tossed her head to get her hair out of her eyes before she smiled at Carl and gave him another thumbs-up. She almost wished she had a pair of those goggles that guys wore when they drove old-fashioned planes. They'd probably look pretty cool.

The response from Saiorse was a thumb's up. The old gargoyle smiled at her, returning the thumbs up with one of his own. His wings spread wide, and they flapped once. Twice. Three times. In seven swoops, his feet had left the ground. The wind caught his wings, and he let his body do the rest. Safety for Saoirse was a top priority, so he got them above the rooftops to avoid being seen, but no high she could fall. The city shrank as they ascended, the expanses spreading. "How do you like it?" He asked his passenger.

Saorise held on tight as Carl flew higher into the air. She gave a gasp of wonder. She had never flown before. Everything looked so different. All the buildings below looked like toys and the people walking the streets were like ants. She gave a smile at Carl. Up here, she felt safe, protected, like nothing bad could ever reach her.

The gasp of wonder made Carl smile. "Aye. The view is always something I cannot get over," he answered to her delightful surprise. He remembered the training he had for the first time. The buildings were getting father. Sooner, they;d be in over the forest.

Saorise smiled, glad to see that Carl agreed with her. She could practically see the city and everything surrounding it. She could even spot the circus grounds nearby. Of course, that also meant that the forest was in view as well. Saorise squirmed on Carl's back. They wouldn't be flying over there, would they?

The wiggling on Carl's back meant that Saoirse was noticing the blanket of the forest. Oh, cear. He had tried to be subtle about the forest, but she was smarter than he realized. "We'll only be goin' over it, Saoirse. I promised we'll only look at it from above. We're not going inside, just above."
