Charlie didn't need to be a mind reader to guess what Gowther was about to ask. His trademark crooked smile crossed his face. He decided to answer the question that he was asked first. Then he would answer the unasked one. He didn't mind if people asked him if he was dead. "Yes. In fact I'm here with my mate, Rita, and my best friend Itchy." He scratched his neck briefly before saying. "And in answer to your unspoken question. Yes it does mean that I'm dead." He debated whether or not to tell Gowther about him dying twice. Then his crooked smile widened as he realized that Gowther would pick up on that thought. Hopefully he'd ask about it.

Gowther, not digging deeper into Charlie's mind, heard the thoughts of Charlie dying twice, and the hope that he would ask about it "It is good that you've got those like you here." He gave a light smile "And since I can tell you want me to ask about it, if you don't mind answering, how did you pass away?"

Charlie gave a small chuckle. "Well the first time I was murdered." At the memories of how he was murdered his hackles rose up slightly. He kept his voice calm though. "My ex-business partner didn't want to share the profit and decided to hit me with a car that sent me flying into a river."

"I'm sorry, that couldn't have been a pleasant death." Gowther quickly revised his statement "Not that any death is particularly pleasant." Gowther decided to inquire about the second death "And your second death?"

"I was a little more bitter about being betrayed by a so called friend and business partner, to be honest." Charlie said with a shrug. "To better understand how I was able to die a second time I think it might be a good idea to explain something first. Like how I came back to life after the first death. In Dog Heaven, every dog has a watch that is their life. When it stops ticking you die. Long story short I stole the watch and wound it back up in order to get revenge on Carface the dog who killed me." He looked at Gowther to see if he was following.

Gowther continued to listen to the story with interest. He had heard of heaven, who hadn't? But he had never thought that dogs would go to their own form of heaven. As for the watches that was ultimately their life, it made Gowther wonder if humans had them too, but nevertheless, he continued to listen "I assume the watch broke or something else caused it to stop?"

"Pretty much." Charlie said with a shrug. "To tell the truth she never really explained how it worked aside from that once it stops you die. Anyways," He said continuing his story. "When I went back to get revenge on Carface, I found that he was holding an orphaned gifted human girl captive. I decided that she was a little more important than getting revenge so I got her out of there. She became incredibly ill while I was trying to find her a home. I left her with my sister to go get a human vet. While I was gone Carface and his thugs kidnapped her again, and put her in a cage in his hideout that was chained to the ceiling. Carface's hideout was an abandoned boat on Lake Pontchartrain. At that point she was so sick that she was unconscious. I went after Carface. We had a huge fight and we caused some oil cans to spill onto the generator and caused a fire. AnneMarie, the kid, cage had fallen off the chain and she was on a crate in the water. Which was now surrounded by fire. I still had my watch around my neck. I was putting it onto a safe place when Carface jumped onto me and caused me to drop it into the water. But it landed on a plank. I jumped into the water planning to get them both. But when I grabbed the watch AnneMarie was falling in to the water. I couldn't save her and keep the watch ticking. I had to make a choice, the girl or the watch. I chose to save the kid. I got her out of the boat by putting her on a board and pushed her out of a hole in the wall. She made it out I didn't." Charlie said.

Gowther listened to the story with interest. While he knew it was true, it was the most interesting and intense story he had ever heard. Charlie had been through a lot, and that spoke volumes of his character in Gowther's opinion "So, you sacrificed yourself for AnneMarie." He pushed his glasses further up on his nose "That is very brave. I assume AnnMarie got the medical attention she needed?"

"Yeah she's doing great." Charlie said. "Heck she's grown up to be quite a young woman. When I said saved her nineteen years ago, I never thought I'd see her again." He said remembering how he had said goodbye to AnneMarie and how surprised he had been when he saw her again when he was at the circus looking for Rita and Itchy. He looked over at Gowther, wondering if he saw that thought.

Gowther couldn't help but smile and look into Charlie's mind, seeing his memory of Charlie being reunited with AnneMarie "That is one of the most heartwarming things I've ever seen, pardon my invasion on that part, I couldn't help but want to see your reunion. I'm glad it all worked out in the end for you, and for her."

Charlie chuckled when Gowther smiled. "Hey no worries. I was going to offer to show you anyways." He said with a smile. The German Shepard angel practically beamed at Gowther's words. "So what about you? What's your story?" He asked tilting his head to the right.

Gowther thought for a moment. It wasn't like his story was anything traumatic, and Charlie had shared his story, so it was only fair "Well, I've always been able to manipulate and read minds, which, I'll admit, I used to get ahead in school. One time I didn't understand what a teacher was trying to explain, so I stayed behind after class and read her mind to get the proper understanding. I got caught, and my parents kicked me out, afraid of what I could do. I'd been on my own until I heard Hiro's thoughts." Gowther gave a light smile "After seeing that this circus was the real deal, I met with Facilier and I joined. That's pretty much it."

"Maybe it's because I'm sort of an ex-con." Charlie said. "But I don't see anything wrong with using your abilities to try to understand something you don't understand. Especially if it's for school. But there is defiantly no reason for your parents to kick you out." His head tilted again at the somewhat familiar name. "Hiro. Why does that name sound familiar?"

"The issue, in their minds at least, was the fact that I had never told them I could do this. They were afraid I'd begin to control their minds, which I wouldn't, and didn't, do." Gowther shrugged "As for Hiro, he's a part of the circus as well. He works with robotics and has a robot named Baymax that follows him around." Gowther explained to help Charlie remember.

"Valid fear I guess." Charlie said. "But still their own kid." He shook his head in amazement at how cruel some humans were capable of. When Gowther explained who Hiro was something in his mind clicked, Rain had mentioned something about his act being 'stolen' by a kid with a robot. "Ah that's why the name rings a bell. Never met him myself but I've heard of him from one of my charges, Rain."
