They had put this off for far too long, that much Cody knew. Of course, he could understand why. This Cleansing was dangerous. It could either tame Jane’s demon side, or it could kill her. Dimitri and Fujimoto had both said that the latter had a very small chance of happening, but it was still on Cody’s mind as he watched the two men set everything up. They had decided to do this a distance-aways from the circus, in case things got out of control. Of course, they had Facilier on speed-dial, but Cody hoped that they wouldn’t have to call him. He glanced at Esmeralda and Emily, who were standing nearby. They looked pretty nervous too. It was kind of odd, seeing them here with Dimitri. He wasn’t on good terms with anybody right now, but they were all willing to work together to save Jane.
“Are you sure this is necessary?” Jane asked as Fujimito strapped her down to a chair.
“I’m afraid so,” Dimitri replied. “Your demon side is going to react pretty strongly to this. We want to try to keep it contained as much as possible.”
Jane just gave a little nod, although she didn’t seem to feel any better about it.
“Don’t worry love, you’ll be fine,” Cody said, giving her a little smile. “This will be over before you know it.”
That seemed to put Jane at ease. Fujimoto stepped back to look things over before saying “I think we’re all ready to go.”
Everybody tensed up slightly at those words. It all seemed a bit surreal. This was finally happening, after all this planning. And everyone was hoping for the same outcome.
“Jane, are you ready?” Esmeralda asked, hoping she didn’t look too worried. If things went awry, it would be her job to use her magic and try to keep things under control until help arrived. She was desperately hoping it wouldn’t come to that, though. She had already hurt Jane once, she didn’t want to do it again.
Jane let out a slow breath before she said “Do your thing, Fujimoto.”
The priest gave a nod before whipping out a small book. He immediately started chanting in what Cody assumed was Latin, although he couldn’t be sure. It took a moment, but the words soon started to affect Jane. Her hands had curled into fists and her forehead got sweaty. It was when Fujimoto’s voice got louder that things started getting crazy.
Cody wasn’t sure what exactly Fujimoto said, but as soon as he got to a certain phrise and his voice rose, Jane started screaming. Cody’s heart trembled at the sound. She thrashed around like a wild animal, desperately trying to get loose.
“What is he doing to her?” Emily cried over the noise. She hated seeing her daughter in pain.
“It’s the demon side of her,” Dimitri replied. “It knows what’s happening and it’s fighting back.”
Jane continued to scream, but those screams soon gave way to animal-like growls. She gnashed her teeth and her eyes glowed red.
“You can’t save her,” Jane said, although Cody had never heard her sound like this before. Her voice was guttural and sounded distorted. “She’s mine. Mine!”
“Fujimoto, hurry up!” Esmeralda yelled.
It was at that moment, however, that Jane’s power burst like popped balloon. A wave of energy shot out of her, blowing everybody back. With a loud snap, her right arm broke free of the restraints.
“Her demon side is trying to take over!” Fujimoto shouted. “It’s breaking her free!”
“Jane, stop!” Cody yelled as he got to his feet. Before Jane could blow him back again, he ran over and grabbed her, holding her down in the chair with all his might.
“Fujimoto! Finish it! Now!” he cried. His vampire genes made it easier for him to hold her down, but it wouldn’t work forever. Even now, he could feel his grip getting weaker.
Fujimoto fumbled with his book as he stood up. He started changing in Latin again, and Jane thrashed and wriggled like a snake. But Cody didn’t let go. As Fujimoto yelled the final word, Jane gave one more scream. The sound made Cody’s ears ring, but it quickly died down into silence. For a moment, nobody dared to move or say anything. They were all thinking the same thing. Did it work? Was Jane okay?
Cody moved first, undoing Jane’s restraints and letting her unconscious body fall into his arms. “Jane? Jane, can you hear me?” he asked, trying to keep his voice calm. Everybody else ran over, their hearts beating fast.
Jane gave a cough before opening her eyes. “Ugh, I have a massive headache,” she said.
That made everybody breathe a sigh of relief. Jane was okay. She had gotten through it. Cody, Esmeralda, and Jane huddled around her, all of them expressing happiness and relief and gratitude.
“Looks like my work here is done,” Fujimoto said. “I’d best be on m way. Her demon side should be under control. Always keep an eye on it though. We don’t want this incident repeating again.”
“Yes, of course, thank you so much,” Dimitri said gratefully.
Fujimoto just gave a little nod before walking away, tucking his book into his coat pocket on the way out. Even though things were still rocky with Dimitri and the others, they were all happy that Jane was okay. And they felt like they could at least be together for that.
((This is rushed. So horribly, horribly rushed. But, this plot has been up in the air for a while and I wanted to wrap it up. Jane and Dimitri's auditions should be getting brought in soon, so keep an eye out for that. Emily is still up for grabs, so if anybody wants to take her, just let me know.))
