Cinderella was getting antsy. While she had agreed with Facilier in that she should stay close to the circus, that didn’t mean she had to like it. She felt responsible for this whole mess, it only made sense that she should help. But everyone felt that she was safest at the circus. Soon enough though, she got tired of just sitting around and decided to do some investigating. The Sins had made their camp in the forest not too far away. No doubt they had left by now, but Cinderella felt like maybe she could at least find some clues about where they could have gone. So, she set out to find it.
The forest seemed a bit quieter than usual, but Cinderella didn’t see it as a major concern. She easily found her way back to the Sins’ old camp grounds. As suspected, they had left a while back. There was no evidence of their camping stuff, and the logs that were over the fire-pit had burned out ages ago. Cinderella felt like there might be something here though, some type of clue. She looked around for a moment, until she suddenly felt one hand pin her arms behind her back and the other hold a knife to her throat.
"Better keep still Cindy, or I might just slip," Sloth hissed in her ear.
Cinderella’s heartbeat pick up when the other Sins emerged. She realized with dread that they hadn’t left the campsite at all. They had been waiting for her to come back here.
"Well, that was easier than I thought," said Pride. "Who knew you still had a few tricks up your sleeve, Envy?"
Envy just rolled his eyes in response. He pulled out a sheet of paper and handed it to Wrath.
"Drop this off as close to the circus as you can get. They’re bound to find it eventually."
Wrath nodded and soon dashed off. Envy grinned at Cinderella.
"Oh yes, the circus won’t be able to resist coming to rescue their little damsel in distress. You’ve managed to charm so many of them, Cindy. I wouldn’t be surprised if they all came running over within the hour."
"You won’t fool them," Cinderella spat. "They’ll know it’s a trap."
"Ah ah ah, no sass-mouthing," Sloth said, holding the knife closer to Cinderella’s neck. That was enough to make her silent.
Envy just smiled. ”Whether they know it’s a trap or not, they’re bound to come here either way. Facilier and your lion boyfriend wouldn’t dare leave you behind. And that will be their downfall.” He gave a little chuckle. ”Let’s move out. Wrath will know where to find us.”
The other Sins followed Envy into the forest, with Cinderella in tow.
"If you want to see Cinderella alive, meet us in the forest. We’ll be waiting for you."
That was all the ransom note said when Facilier read it, but he knew well enough who it was from, and what it meant. Odette and Quasimodo had evident worry on their faces.
"Facilier…we can’t…it’s obviously a trap," Odette said.
"I know it’s a trap," Facilier said. "But we have no choice. We can’t let Cinderella die." He cracked his knuckles. "I was going to fight them anyway. Looks like we’ll just have to speed things up a bit." He looked at Quasimodo. "Get some people together. As soon as you have enough, we go after the Sins. Make sure nobody else goes into the forest. I don’t need anyone else getting kidnapped."
Quasimodo nodded. ”Right.” He quickly left the caravan, trying not to freak out. He had to have faith in Facilier. He knew what he was doing. If he was hopeful that they would get Cinderella back, then Quasimodo knew it could happen. He didn’t know what he would do if Cinderella got hurt, or killed. He would do everything in his power to make sure that didn’t happen.
