"Excuse me, you're where???" Tony asked incredulously. He had received a call from Maria Hill, who decided to give him a mission update. Suffice to say, he was not happy to hear about how she and two of his agents had implanted themselves into the cirque without his knowledge.
"How in God's name did you con Haruhi and Konata into this-, what?"
Tony paused as he listened to Maria's answer.
"Whaddya mean 'acting independently'? You expect me to believe my own agents went behind my back and-."
Another pause.
"Touche," Tony answered with a sigh.
Tony paused again as Maria further explained their infiltration of Cirque Mystique, then answered exasperatedly, "Fine, fine. Find out what you can, and report back to me. Just make sure you don't get caught, alright?"
With that, Tony hung up his phone, and slumped onto his desk. This situation was getting more complicated by the second. First, there was Loki, then that call from Xanatos, and now three of Team-X's members were knee deep into enemy territory. It seemed like he was teetering on the brink of losing control of everything on this assignment. There was no telling what could go wrong in a situation like this. Tony rubbed his forehead with both hands as the information buzzed about inside his brain, no doubt causing the onset of the massive headache he was beginning to feel. Hopefully, pooling all of their available man-power would help ease the situation.
Just as he said that, a beep at the door indicated an arrival at his door.
Speak of the devil, "Come in."

Re-I Mayer stepped into the room and bowed "Mr. Stark I have brough my reports from the mission all nice and organized like you like them" she said walking and setting the folder nicely on his desk. "Anything else I can assist you with?" she asked quirking her head curious as why he looked like she was going to punch something.

"Good, everything looks okay here," Tony said, absentmindedly placing the stack of papers just handed to him on the side, "if you could take a seat, there's a situation we need to discuss."
Tony took a quick moment to organize his thoughts, leaning forward on the desk and rubbing his chin.
"So, Agent Mayer," Tony said, "just to check, you've been briefed on our current target, Cirque Mystique?"

Re-I took her seat crossing her legs and lounged back her face passive no emotions shown but attention "Yes I have Mr. Stark however I honestly don't see the point in the hunting of these people...they have yet to break any laws and from my primary scouting most appear normal as can be with the exception of a couple that's appearance scream not human..." she said blandly rest her head on her hand. "What is it you TRULY want from me Mr. Stark while I am grateful for what you have done for me in the past to be honest sir...this mission sounds like idiocy and you know my stance on idiocy"

"Yes, I do," Tony answered flatly, "and you can imagine how much I appreciate that. However, I'd like to remind you that we work for a government body that sees enemies in the least likely of places. Dealing with idiocy comes hand in hand with what we do."
As he continued to speak, Tony rose from his chair, and faced the glass window behind him, taking in the view of the cityscape outside.
"As for Cirque Mystique, whether or not they've done anything yet is negligible. Our job is to assess their threat capacity. What they could do is what we're here to find out. If you say they haven't done anything yet, then I say we make sure they don't do anything in the future. You see where I'm going with this?"

"I see it yes but...Mr. Stark...there are children in the Cirque...some not even truly adults yet does the government truly think that harming these children is going to solve anything?!" She exclaimed standing up suddenly slamming her hands on table.
"If anything else Mr. Stark this would make the adults THAT MUCH more likely to attack civilians from what I have seen they are fiercely protective of their own..more so then even us humans...I saw..a young girl being harassed by men of your age Mr. Stark and she was maybe sixteen...had another cirque member not stepped in Mr. Stark I would have" she said her eyes showing no lies.
"If they are hostile then what can we expect!? we are equally hostile towards them Mr. Stark perhaps we could find one and talk to them figure out if the cirque means any true harm?" she said softly clenching her fists "You know I don't like using force unless its completely necessary Mr. Stark and that's only to make sure you are safe"

Tony continued staring out the window as he listened to Mayer's words. He'd heard these arguments before, from government watch-dogs and civil-liberties lawyers, all clamoring for tolerance and respect in terms of Human-Enchanteds relations. He always saw such people as limited, unable to see the full scope. Such a gift of true understanding was a privilege awarded to those select few, like himself.
Tony features became more rigid as he turned to face Mayer, "Look, I can understand you having doubts about this. But, we have to look at the bigger picture, the large scope of things. You know as well as I do that not all the Enchanteds are innocent. You should also know that the tensions between our two sides has been escalating for some time. But what you may not know, and I consider this a fact, as far as humans being able to address threats from Enchanteds, humans are losing."
Tony began pacing behind his desk as he continued, "There is always going to be a threat from an Enchanted being who's prone to violence and maliciousness. It's part of their nature, as much as it ours. In order to make certain we're protected from them, we need every advantage we can get. And let's be honest, we don't have much to go with. Conventional methods are only a stop-gap measure, certain to fail in the long-run. And that's where we come in. Our job is to solve the problems that no one else can, and in order for us to do that, it's going to require us to sell a little bit of our own souls to the Devil. The fact of the matter is, human kind is doomed to extinction if we can't find a solution to deal with those problematic Enchanteds, and let's be honest, you and the rest of Team-X, are not exactly my father's World War II Super Soldiers."
Tony then rested his hands on his desk, leaning towards Re-I Mayer, "This is a despicable job, I'm not gonna dispute that. But, we have to do whatever we're told to do, to ensure the protection of our own. And, more importantly, I need to know that I can count on you to do what needs to be done. Believe me, I want this to end with as little hurt and pain as possible, just as much as you do. But, we're gonna have to get our hands dirty with this one. I need you to put your doubts and conscience aside for this mission, alright?"

Re-I Mayer looked up at Tony her eyes devoid of all emotion "Fine then Mr. Stark I will do what must be done...what must I do" she spoke he voice almost sounding robotic as she stared into space seemingly unaware of her true surroundings. She shook her head to clear the cobwebs and looked back at him "Mr.Stark...These blank outs are getting more and more frequent...just the other day I was speaking with one of the guards about uping the security measures for when Mr. Xanatos arrives and...I did it...should I...should I be worried sir?"

Tony's expression wavered slightly, "You should...probably take a rest, for now. I think you've done enough for today. I'll let you know if we need anything."
Tony patted Mayer on the shoulder, doing his best to reassure her.
"If you prefer, I can have GLaDOS run a physical evaluation on you, just to make sure your plumbing checks out."

"I would feel better is GLaDOS did her scan to be honest sir despite most peoples issues with her bluntness I find it refreshing" she said chuckling softly "But I will take a rest though sir please call if you need anything...oh and sir...my sources say they saw Mr. Xanatos...talking with one of the cirque members earlier...that member seemed to show signs of being a vampire...and I remembered her face from the debacle we had to deal with... a few years ago...I thought you should know"

Tony's eyes widened for a few short seconds as he watched Re-I Mayer exit his office, "Thanks for that."
After Mayer left, Tony began pacing about his office, biting lightly at his thumb nail. Mayer's report on Xanatos visiting the cirque only deepened his suspicions of the man. And if it was true, that one of their older targets had somehow found her way to the cirque...
Of course, yet another concern mounting on his plate was for Re-I Mayer.
"GLaDOS?" Tony called out.
"You rang, sir?" GLaDOS's voice came in from the speakers.
"Just to clarify, about Agent Mayer," Tony said, now leaning on his desk, "you're certain the side-effects are negligible?"
GLaDOS answered with her usual emotionless monotone, "I wouldn't worry about it. As I told you earlier, the side effects would be minimal in regards to her physical performance. But, if you're still worried, I'll be sure to give her the proper once over once she's regained her strength."
"I'd appreciate that," Tony said, rubbing his forehead.
"It's a shame we had to resort to using an incomplete version of the Super Soldier Serum. I certainly hope nothing-."
"That'll be all GLaDOS!" Tony barked.
The speakers then clicked, indicating GLaDOS's departure. After another short moment of silence, Tony went up to the bar, and grabbed a random bottle off the shelf. He then popped the cap off, and took a quick swig, straight from the bottle. Right now, alcohol seemed to be the only thing that helped.
