The applause from the crowd seemed to die down, signaling that the show was coming to a close. Snake had been careful to slip out of the crowd while no one was paying attention, while keeping his hood up to hide his scales. And he was certainly careful when letting his friends, his pet snakes, loose to investigate the circus. He needed a job, and quick, but he knew no one normal would hire him with his appearance, but another circus, while he dreaded the thought, just might. He wouldn't ask, unless his friends gave him the clear that this wasn't a place that would jam him into a cage for laughs.
While people filed out, he quickly ducked between two tents, not wanting to draw attention to himself if possible. A low hiss drew his attention tot he ground, where Emily, a white snake with orange dots, had appeared. He held his hand out, letting her slither up his arm and hiss into his ear "I see. So this place...it's not a normally run circus. And there are no cages?" Another hiss "Only for the actual animals." He breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe this place would work out after all. He looked around. He hadn't just sent Emily, he sent Wordsworth too. He thought the green and brown snake would have returned first. He had told both snakes not to bite anyone, so why wasn't he returning?

Facilier had to admit, he felt like the show was getting better and better all the time. The addition of a few new members certainly helped. Their skills caught people's attention. But it wasn't just them alone. The veterans of this circus knew what things pleased audiences, and they always tried to do them every time. After congratulating the performers for a job well done, he headed out of the performance tent. He wanted to check with the vendors and see if they had sold anything. It was during this time that he ran into something he wasn't quite expecting. It was a snake, whose scales alternated between green and brown. Facilier frowned. While he didn't mind snakes, he knew audience members didn't unless they were in the hands of a professional. For a moment, he thought it had perhaps escaped from the animal tent. Wait a minute, we don't have snakes here, do we? he thought. Belle wasn't the type to handle that sort of thing. Did this snake belong to an audience member? The snake certainly seemed to move with a purpose, as if heading back to a particular destination. Curious, Facilier decided he might as well follow it.

The snake found it's owner quickly "Ah, there you are Wordsworth." Snake crouched down, holding his arm out for the reptile to slither up. It rested on his shoulder and hissed into his ear. Wordsworth was warning him that someone was coming "You didn't hurt anyone, did you?" The snake hissed again "Alright, Wordsworth, I won't doubt you again." Snake scratched Wordsworth's head in approval for not biting anyone "Did the person who is following you look friendly?" Wordsworth didn't make a sound, so he didn't know whether whoever was following him was friendly or not. Snake sighed "Let's go try to find the leader of this troupe then, shall we?" He pulled his cloak's hood over his head. The snakes hissed in approval, and Snake came out of hiding between the tents, but stopped just before bumping into Facilier.

The snake moved rather quickly, and Facilier soon lost sight of it. Where did it go? he wondered. But, after thinking the matter over for a moment longer, he gave a shrug and started to head back the way he came. Maybe it was nothing. However, he soon ended up bumping into someone. A hooded someone to be exact, and he had snakes with him, one of which was the one Facilier had been following. "Didn't know we had a snake charmer on the grounds," he said coolly. He didn't know who this guy was, but that much control over snakes didn't seem very human to him.

Snake made sure to back up a bit, putting some distance between himself and the ringleader. The two snakes on his shoulders hissed, giving a warning for Facilier to not step any closer to the snake man. Snake looked over to his friends "Emily, Wordsworth, that's enough. We're not here to threaten." The two snakes listened and rested on his shoulders, but kept their eyes on Facilier. Snake looked up to Facilier "I assume that you're the ringleader of this circus?" He lowered his hood, not wanting to give Facilier any reason to be on guard around him "If so, is this circus a safe place? Emily says that the only cages here are the ones for the regular animals." Emily hissed "No Emily, I don't doubt your word for it, but I'm asking him now."

The snakes hissed, making Facilier's eyes narrow. For a moment, he couldn't help but react defensively and wonder if this guy was a threat. But, the man calmed his snakes down, and actually asked if Facilier was the ringleader of this circus. "Yup, that's me," he said. "Ringmaster Facilier." He nodded in answer to the man's second question. "Yup, safe as can be," he replied. "We've got a handful of guards making regular rounds. And some of the circus members can pack a powerful punch, even if they're not guards." He paused for a moment before asking "Are you hiding from someone?" That was a popular reason why somebody wanted to join the circus. They were on the run and needed some place safe to stay. The man looked shady enough to be a refugee. He seemed to be able to communicate with the snakes on a higher level.

When Facilier asked if he was in hiding, Snake bit his lip "I ran away." He took a deep breath "From a bad circus. One that parades it's occupants around like animals. I doubt that they'll look for me though." One of the snakes rested on his head in what appeared to be comfort "I was sick of being jammed in a cage, so I ran when I had the chance." Snake held his hand up and let Emily slither down his arm "I don't have anywhere else to go. But I saw your troupe's posters around town and I was hoping for a job." He petted Wordsworth on his shoulder "I apologize if my friends alerted you, but I wanted them to look around, to be sure I wouldn't face the same treatment, should I have been allowed to stay."

A bad circus, huh? Facilier had heard of stuff like that, and it kind of disgusted him. What was the point of treating your performers like shit? If they felt bad, they weren't going to put on a good show. Plus, it was downright inhumane. It seemed like Snake had faced some of that. He gave a little nod when Snake mentioned the snakes he had sent out. He hadn't minded him, it was just unexpected. Usually, the only reptiles around here were dragons. "So, are snakes your special talent, in a way?" he asked.

Snake nodded and smiled at Emily and Wordsworth "I can communicate with them. I've always had a connection with them." Wordsworth closed his eyes, as if sleeping "I can interpret what they want, and I let them speak through me. They listen to me more than anyone else." He put a hand to his cheek, over the scales on it "I was born with scales, and I assume the ability I have with them came from that."

Facilier was quiet as he listened. It seemed like this guy had a talent with animals, but it was different than Belle's. Belle's understanding of animals just came from being kind and gentle with them and getting to know them. This guy's specialty was with snakes alone, and he could literally understand what they were saying. "Well, we've had a couple of people working with animals in the circus over the years, but I don't think any of them reach your level," he said. "Can do that with just snakes, or can you understand other reptiles and stuff?"

"From what I know so far, it might only be snakes, but I've never tried to communicate with other reptiles." Facilier seemed to be interviewing him, which, if he was, was good. That meant Snake had a shot of joining the circus. So far, Facilier seemed trustworthy, and Emily and Wordsworth told him there were no cages, and no apparent reason to be afraid "A word of warning, snake charming flutes have an effect on me, similar to hypnosis." The old ringleader at the past circus had done this to amuse the crowd. It always left him with a major headache afterwards.

"Well, you won't have to worry about that," Facilier assured him. "Usually, if any instruments are charmed around here, it's to get them to play by themselves." Having magic like that was kind of handy sometimes. "So, I take it you want to join this circus?" he guessed. That seemed to be the reason why the man had come here, besides getting away from the circus that had abused him.

Snake nodded is response to Facilier's question "Yes please. I can perform with my friends." He patted Emily and Wordsworth on their heads "I could also help with other reptiles, maybe see if I can communicate with them as well." Wordsworth leaned towards Facilier and hissed again "Wordsworth says that no other job would allow us to work for them." With his scales and the two snakes that were constantly in his company, no where normal would ever allow him to work for them.

Facilier nodded his head. Snake's skills could be of use here. "Well, sounds like you're pretty qualified to work here," he said. "If you want, I can get a contract right now and have you sign it." He wasn't sure if Snake wanted to start working here immediately or think about it for a little while longer, but Facilier figured he might as well offer.

"I'd like to go ahead and sign, thank you." Emily and Wordsworth hissed at the same time "Emily and Wordsworth say they're happy too." Snake was glad. He found a place that wouldn't treat him like a zoo display, and his skills would work just fine here.
